The (very groovy) Doors Tribute Party and Concert!

If you were there, you had a blast! If you weren't, we didn't miss you because we were too busy having a blast! But we'll try to fill you in on the fun...

The event completely sold out - twice!

The table arrangement in the Largo Cultural Center Theater was revamped in order to allow more tickets to be sold since so many Doors fans wanted in! They came from near and far to see the show, even driving from as far away as Cocoa Beach and Lake Mary to attend.

Tie-dye and peace signs were everywhere! You could feel the love even from out in the parking lot!

The Tribute party was non-stop action. Slater from 102.5 The Bone got the crowd rev'ed up.

Guests dined on lots of delicious food donated by local vendors including O'Keefe's, Cakes on the Dot, CiCi's Pizza, Village Inn, Wildflower Cafe, Pickles Plus, Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Durango's Largo Mall, Chik Fil-A Ulmerton, Donivan's Reef, Mugs & Jugs, and The Stuffed Mushroom.

We had some great entries in the costume contest, which was judged by members of the Doors band, Peace Frog.

Winners received tickets to future Largo Cultural Center events, Doors music, movies and the new Doors coffee table book, and the top winner also won an iPod Nano.

Thanks to all who participated in the fun!

Doug Wright did an incredible job painting the door from Jim Morrison's childhood home in Clearwater.

Triangle Development has donated the door to the The Largo Cultural Center, which is currently auctioning off the "Break on Through” door on eBay.

The auction ends on Sept. 4th, bid on it here: http://stores.ebay.com/LargoArts-com.

Own a piece of Rock N Roll history and your purchase will help to support the arts in Largo. The proceeds will go to Partners N Progress for the Arts, Inc. (PNP). Contributions to PNP are vital to the Largo Cultural Center and its mission. As a nonprofit organization, PNP relies on a variety of funding sources to help underwrite performances, educate young audiences and maintain a remarkable facility.

The door is mounted in a painted frame and will open and close with handle.

Largo Cultural Center staff did an incredible job of making the stage look like the Ed Sullivan Show set when The Doors appeared live so many years ago, by hanging doors all over and lighting them all with different color lights.

The band, Peace Frog, put on an amazing show.

One happy fan summed it up this way, with a note he posted on Peace Frog's website:

Dear Peace Frog,
I lost my virginity AGAIN last night, & it never felt so good. I was 15 at the explosion of the Doors and never got to see them. Most of the reasons are substance related but no reason to go there. Last night 8/25 @ Largo Cultural Center brought it all back. I have NEVER seen a performance so alive with electricity. The music was real & so was the presence of the "Lizard King"!!
The drummer put Densmore to shame and the guitarist had Robby down pat. The stage presence of the WHOLE group was sensual!
I cannot wait till you come back our way.
By the way, I drove 4 hours coming & going to see the show. I would do it all over again at the drop of a hat!
Thanks for bringing the Doors back to their rightful position!
You guys ROCK!!
Jim lives...
